Peter Gault of WEBtech, and Terry Landon of RE/MAX Cornwall, officially launched the Send Melanie to the Olympics Foundation at a recent Team Cornwall breakfast.

"Every family knows how expensive it is to have a child on a travelling team", said Peter Gault. "Melanie is on the ultimate travelling team, and with that role comes added expenses for her family. As a Team Cornwall member, Melanie is also part of our family, and we should help with some of the expenses."

Melanie Banville is a member of the Canadian Women's Gymnastics National Team. She finished 2nd overall at the recent Canadian championships and was a silver medal winner at the Pan-Am games in Santo Domingo.

The Foundation is a non-profit effort to help offset the costs incurred by the Banville family as Melanie prepares for the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece. The costs of her training and her travel will be significant, the majority of which will have to be borne by her family.

"We are proud to have Melanie join Team Cornwall", said Team Cornwall Chair Gilles Latour. "When Melanie competes next summer in Athens, she will be not only representing Canada but her hometown as well. The Foundation allows everybody, Team Cornwall member or not, to play a small role in helping Melanie achieve her goals".

In making the official announcement of the Foundation, Mr. Gault identified several companies who have come forward to jumpstart the fundraising. These companies include Columbia Finishing Mills, Computer Sense, the Cornwall Colts, Craig Keen Despatie and Markell LLP, PCY Carriers, RE/MAX Cornwall , and WEBtech. He also announced that a website has been set up track the progress of the Foundation, and to answer any questions people might have about making a donation. People can also obtain information at the offices of WEBtech, Re/Max Cornwall or Craig Keen Despatie and Markell LLP. The website address is www.Melanie Banville.com
