Sympatico.ca Feature on Cornwall

The low cost of living in Cornwall is featured in a Sympatico.casegment entitled “Least expensive cities to buy a home in Canada”.

The City made the list of 10 Canadian cities profiled for having affordable housing.

“This web feature is a welcome acknowledgement that Cornwall has some of the most affordable housing in Canada,” said Bob Peters, Senior Development Officer. “The average sale price of a home in Cornwall is significantly below that of Ottawa, Toronto and Montreal. It is definitely a factor that is important to our efforts in attracting new residents to the City.”

The City’s Economic Development website, www.ChooseCornwall.ca has a section aimed at new residents. The section includes house price comparisons and well as information concerning some of the other advantages of living in Cornwall – including electrical rates that are as much as 28% below other Ontario municipalities.

The Cornwall and District Real Estate Board reports that the average sale price of a house in Cornwall for February year to date is $144,865, which is well below the Ontario average of $350,153 and the Canadian average of $356,343.

Other cities in the Sympatico.ca feature include: Fredericton NB, Chatham-Kent ON, Sault Ste.Marie ON, Timmins ON, Thunder Bay ON, Yarmouth NS, Annapolis Valley NS, Cape Breton NS, Yorkton SK.
