October is Small Business Month

Do you know� that small businesses with fewer than 100 employees contribute about 30 percent to Canada�s GDP? * Through their determination and commitment, small businesses add immeasurably to Cornwall�s economic well-being.

October is Salute to Small Business Month in Ontario, an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of small business owners. Each year, communities throughout Ontario schedule a wide range of activities to mark the event.

�This year, to help mark Small Business Month, the Cornwall Business Enterprise Centre is hosting several different seminars and events,� said Alyssa Blais, the Business Consultant in charge of the Centre. �We are inviting entrepreneurs and small business owners from Cornwall and SD & G to participate.�

Starting a New Business Information Seminar

This (free) information seminar is an introduction to the basics of how to start a business in Cornwall and S.D. & G. The next seminar is scheduled October 10th from 12:00pm to 1:00pm at 144 Pitt Street. A perfect primer for anybody thinking of starting their own business.

PST-GST Seminar

Running a small business can take a lot of time and paperwork. Then there are the taxes - including the PST and GST. This (free) informative seminar offers tips on how to understand and handle these taxes. Scheduled for October 15th, in both English and French, at the Cornwall Civic Complex.

Breakfast Connections - Take a Break, Connect, Share & Learn

The Cornwall Business Enterprise Centre is partnering with the SD&G Community Futures Development Corporation and the Cornwall and Area Chamber of Commerce to offer a monthly series of breakfast meetings. Entitled �Breakfast Connections�, each breakfast meeting will feature a guest speaker and topic that will appeal to entrepreneurs and small business owners. The first Breakfast Connection event takes place October 22 nd from 7:30 am to 9:00 am at Schnitzels, 158 Pitt St.

ARTpreneur Conference

This conference is a unique learning event that responds to the business needs of the artistic entrepreneur. The conference is designed for today's professional artist in all domains: painter, musician, writer, dancer, actor, designer, photographer, and talks will be given by experts in the art and business world from around Ontario and Quebec. ARTpreneur takes place October 30th, at the Best Western Parkway Inn & Conference Centre, and offers a great slate of speakers, peer networking, seminars, lunch and a whole lot more.
