Second Job Creation Partnership Ends

Four participants gained valuable skills and work experience thanks to a recent Job Creation Partnership between Employment Ontario and Team Cornwall. The program, which was the second partnership sponsored by Team Cornwall, came to a conclusion on Friday, July 4th.

“Team Cornwall is a volunteer-driven organization and the Job Creation Partnership helped us to accomplish our objectives," says Team Cornwall Chair Gilles Latour. “We are happy with the results of the work of the JCP participants, and even happier that many of them have gone on to find employment. Our sincere thanks goes out to Pauline Bookhout and her staff at Employment Ontario for being true partners.”

The six month project accomplished three major objectives, one of which was the establishment of the Seaway Valley Volunteer Connection, a monthly email newsletter and subscriber database that connects available volunteers with local not-for-profit and charitable organizations and events. In June, the JCP project hosted a “Help Cornwall Grow’ public seminar which provided residents with the information and motivation required to act as ambassadors for the city. In addition, project participants also supplied administrative assistance leading up to and during the 2008 RBC Cup.

Project Coordinator Gord Shaver expressed his thanks to local businesses who helped make the project possible. Local partners included the Agape Centre, Scotiabank Cornwall, Mai-Liis The Graphic Designer, Primelink Telecom, the UPS Store, Jtec Audiotronic, Craig, Keen, Despatie, Markell LLP Chartered Accountants, and the Economic Development Department of the City of Cornwall. The major contributor to the program was Cornwall Square, who supplied a storefront location for the duration of the project.

With the second JCP program concluded, Team Cornwall is making a data projector, laptop and screen available to local community groups as needed for presentations. To make arrangements to borrow the equipment, groups can email info@teamcornwall.com.

Team Cornwall is made up of over 300 business people and professionals who use their own networks to promote the positive attributes of Cornwall as a city in which to live and do business. With the closing of the JCP office in Cornwall Square, Team Cornwall can be contacted through the organization’s website at www.teamcornwall.com, or by emailing info@teamcornwall.com.

The Ontario Job Creation Partnerships Program provides work experience to unemployed jobseekers in projects that benefit the community or local economy. At the end of their participation in the project, participants will have recent work experience and additional skills to add to their résumés, increasing their chances of successfully finding long-term employment.
