A capacity crowd got an inside look at the City of Cornwall’s 2008 Marketing Plan at the Team Cornwall annual general meeting, April 22nd at the Ramada Inn & Conference Centre.
Bob Peters, Senior Development Officer with the city, showed the crowd how eight different marketing tactics will be utilized to create an overall strategy that reflects Cornwall’s new brand and positioning. “We have a positive message to spread about the advantages of Cornwall as a location for both business and living”, said Peters. “The 2008 marketing plan outlines several formal actions that seek to raise Cornwall’s profile."
Advertising campaigns to raise the level of awareness of the city, specific efforts to reach unique markets, and extensive use of marketing materials are some of the techniques to be used. In addition to event sponsorship, database marketing and the use of banners, the ChooseCornwall.ca website is a key part of the plan. "The heart of the campaign is an effort to promote the ChooseCornwall.ca website", added Peters. "Everybody can help... from adding the website logo to letterhead, envelopes and packaging to the back of cars and trucks."
Special guests at the meeting were Hannah Riordan, Tess Simpson, Zoe Kamenz and Megan Suffel, the four members of the Cornwall Sea Lions who competed at the recent Olympic Swimming Trials in Montreal. Riordan and Simpson qualified for Team Canada and will represent their country at the Tri-Nations Cup in Quebec City in August.
Also on hand for the meeting were the RBC Cup Host Organizing Committee, as well as members of the Cornwall Colts. Committee Chair Candy Pollard declared the “tournament was ready to go. The committee has done a lot of work, the sponsors have come forward, and the Colts are working hard to get ready. Now we need to fill the arena.’
Team Cornwall Chair Gilles Latour urged the community to welcome the players, spectators and media who will be in the city during the tournament, calling it “a vital opportunity to showcase this great city to people all across Canada.” Latour called on banks, hotels, restaurants, businesses and citizens to take advantage of national media exposure to spread the word that Cornwall is a great place to visit and live. “Everyone needs to be involved,” said Latour. The RBC Cup, Canada’s Junior ‘A” hockey championship, will be held in the city May 3 – 11th.
Team Cornwall is made up of over 300 business people and professionals who use their own networks to promote the positive attributes of Cornwall as a city in which to live and do business.
