20th Annual Chamber Awards

The Chamber�s 20th Annual Business Excellence Awards and 36th Citizen of the Year was held on February 23 and 250 guests from the City�s professional business community were on hand to celebrate their peers who excelled in a variety of categories.

The annual affair is one of the Chamber�s premier events that recognizes both firms and individuals who have played a integral role in Cornwall�s growth and prosperity. This year�s theme, a Carribean Cruise, proved to be an exciting nautical affair at the Best Western Parkway Inn & Conference Centre.

There were seven business awards that recognized firms and individuals who have exemplified excellence and contributed to Cornwall�s growth and prosperity.

Business winners included:

  • Above and Beyond Award: Pat Baranowski
  • Entrepreneur of the Year Award: Leon & Kim Sabourin, and Dennis Smisek
  • Skills Development Award: Seaway Valley Construction and Trades Association
  • Small Business of the Year Award: Jtec
  • Business of the Year Award: Autopak (Benson Organization)
  • Industry of the Year Award: Glopak
  • Lifetime Business Achievement: Lydia Johnson
There were also the Breakthrough and Humanitarian awards which, while not always presented, recognize an event or an individual that has benefitted the entire community. This year the awards were presented to:

  • Breakthrough Award: Kinsmen Cornwall Lift-Off
  • Dr. Garth Taylor Humanitarian Award: Sister Elaine Robitaille
This year�s prestigious Citizen of the Year award was given to Louise Ann McLellan, an individual whose selfless contribution to the community has helped make Cornwall a better place to work and to live. This year represents the 36th time the prestigious award will have been presented.
