Stormont-Dundas-Charlottenburgh MPP Jim Brownell announced an investment of $34,828 in the Job Creation Partnership Friday, February 22nd, at a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by local dignitaries and Team Cornwall members at the Team Cornwall JCP office in Cornwall Square.

“I am very pleased that we can help provide Team Cornwall with the staffing that will assist them in thier endeavours." said Brownell. “This program is also important because we are providing work experience to those in our communities that can hopefully lead to full time work.”

“Team Cornwall is a volunteer-driven organization and the Job Creation Partnership will provide us with more tools to accomplish our objectives," says Team Cornwall Chair Gilles Latour. “At the same time, it will assist in initiating other important projects that will be beneficial to the community.”

The six month project which runs until July 2008, will establish an email newsletter and subscriber database that will connect available volunteers with local not-for-profit and charitiable organizations and events. Another objective is to host a public seminar aimed at teaching citizens how thay can act as ambassadors for the city. In addition, the project will also provide support to organizers hosting the 2008 RBC Cup.

In his address to the gathering, Team Cornwall Vice-Chair Chris Savard expressed his thanks to local businesses who have contributed to the project. Contributors include the Agape Centre, Scotiabank Cornwall, Cup’a Joe Design, Mai-Liis The Graphic Designer, Primelink Telecom, the UPS Store, Jtec Audiotronic, Craig, Keen, Despatie, Markell LLP Chartered Accountants, and the Economic Development Department of the City of Cornwall. The major contributor to the program is Cornwall Square, who are supplying a storefront location for the duration of the project.

The Team Cornwall JCP office is located on the second level of Cornwall Square, near Sears. The office is open from 9am – 5pm, Monday through Friday.

The Ontario Job Creation Partnerships Program provides work experience to unemployed jobseekers in projects that benefit the community or local economy. At the end of their participation in the project, participants will have recent work experience and additional skills to add to their résumés, increasing their chances of successfully finding long-term employment.
