10 Year Growth Surge for Cornwall
Cornwall's economy received another "clean bill of health" with the tabling of the annual "Year in Review" at a recent Team Cornwall meeting. The Year in Review Report was prepared by Cornwall Economic Development and it summarized another year of positive investment across a wide array of sectors.
"Cornwall's economy grew for the 10th year in a row", said Mark Boileau, Manager of Cornwall Economic Development. "Companies have expanded, reinvested in new machinery, trained staff, and have penetrated new markets. Tourism has been strong and the City is increasingly being considered as a new home for young families and recent retirees".
"We congratulate and salute all of the Cornwall businesses and residents who have had a successful 2007", said Mayor Bob Kilger. "Cornwall is turning heads in Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa and more and more people are becoming interested in what we have to offer".
The detailed report had some interesting highlights, including the fact that unemployment remains at or below national and provincial levels. Building permit activity remained strong at over $38 million dollars.

"The Year-in-Review Meeting is always our most popular meeting of the year", said Gilles Latour, Chair of Team Cornwall. "Each report for the last 10 years has been very positive, which re-energizes our Team Cornwall ambassadors as they work to promote growth of our City."
Mr. Latour also recapped several major accomplishments for Team Cornwall, including a successful Job Creation Partnership with Employment Ontario that saw new marketing materials created and seven people find employment. Team Cornwall was also busy helping raise Cornwall's profile with Hockeyville, Lift-Off and the RBC Cup, in addition to partnering with the City's Economic Development Department on a number of projects.
Team Cornwall also unveiled a new tractor trailer that will carry a billboard promoting Cornwall as it travels throughout Eastern Canada. Featuring a large picture of Mayor Bob Kilger and several Team Cornwall members, the trailer ad encourages people to "Choose Cornwall". The trailer was parked outside of Galaxy Cinemas and greeted the approximately 250 community leaders who attended the meeting. The truck is one of 3 that will carry ads promoting the City, and represents a partnership between Team Cornwall, Cornwall Economic Development and Seaway Express.
"Team Cornwall celebrated its 10th anniversary at the beginning of this year as well", said Mr. Latour. "Today we welcomed 20 new members and the future for the next 10 years looks even brighter."
Team Cornwall is a group of 300 business and community leaders that act as good will ambassadors for the City of Cornwall. Team Cornwall members spread the word about Cornwall's positive attributes as a city in which to live and do business, using their own networks to deliver timely information about the community and growing our city's economic development opportunities.
