Team Cornwall Office Officially Opened
Four participants will have the opportunity to gain valuable skills and work experience, thanks to a partnership between Employment Ontario and Team Cornwall. Stormont-Dundas-Charlottenburgh MPP Jim Brownell announced an investment of $165,278 in the Job Creation Partnership Friday, April 20th, at a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by local dignitaries and Team Cornwall members at the Team Cornwall JCP office in Cornwall Square.
“We’re investing in a civic improvement initiative that also provides training to people who were looking for work,’ said Brownell. “This project enables trainees to benefit from work experience that will lead to full-time jobs, while creating an opportunity to contribute to economic growth in out area.”
The project will assist Team Cornwall in its efforts to encourage future employment and economic development for the benefit of Cornwall. Participants are working on projects that include updating the Team Cornwall membership database, creating brochures and newsletters, conducting membership surveys and many other initiatives.
“Team Cornwall is a volunteer-driven organization. This Job Creation Partnership allows us to move forward on projects that otherwise would not have been possible,” said Team Cornwall Chair Gilles Latour in his address to the news conference. “At the end of this project we expect to see a revitalized team, with new marketing tools that will help our members promote the city.”
Latour also expressed his thanks to local businesses who have contributed to the project, most notably Cornwall Square who are providing the office space for the 12 month duration of the project. Other contributors include WebTech, the Agape Centre, Scotiabank Cornwall, Cup’a Joe Design, the UPS Store, Jtec Distribution Inc., Astro Printing, Craig, Keen, Despatie, Markell LLP Chartered Accountants, and the Economic Development Department of the City of Cornwall. Latour also acknowledged Bell Canada for their assistance with the project, and Primelink Telecom for supplying the use of a telephone system.
The Team Cornwall JCP office is located on the second level of Cornwall Square, near Sears. The office is open from 9am – 5pm, Monday through Friday.
